The Senior Accountant II oversees day-to-day financial operations, bookkeeping, tax filings, and account reconciliations at Scepto Import’s Addis Ababa headquarters. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the candidate will handle foreign trade/import accounting, budget forecasting, inventory/property transaction tracking, payroll processing, and audit preparations while ensuring strict compliance with Ethiopian tax laws (ERCA/MOR).
Key Responsibilities1. Financial Operations & Import Accounting
Manage full-cycle daily bookkeeping, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general ledger accounts.
Process and account for foreign trade and import transactions, including letters of credit (L/C), freight, customs duties, and landed cost calculations.
Perform routine bank, inventory, and ledger reconciliations.
2. Tax Compliance & Financial Reporting
Prepare and file all statutory tax returns (VAT, Withholding Tax, Payroll Tax, Income Tax) accurately and on schedule.
Assist with budget preparation, cash flow monitoring, financial forecasting, and month-end/year-end closing procedures.
Coordinate internal and external audit processes, preparing supporting schedules and audit-trail documentation.
3. Payroll, Asset & Transaction Management
Process employee payroll disbursements and manage statutory benefit/pension deductions.
Record and monitor property, equipment, sales, and purchasing transactions within accounting software.
Provide analytical financial reports and decision support to top management as requested.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Work Experience: 7+ years of direct accounting experience, with strong preference for candidates with background in the import/trading sector.
Software Proficiency: Practical experience using accounting software (Peachtree / Sage) and ERP systems, alongside advanced MS Excel skills.
Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Ethiopian tax laws, import duties, and financial reporting guidelines.
Core Competencies: Analytical problem-solving, high attention to detail, time management, articulate communication, and the ability to work independently.
