The Human Rights Officer (Women's Rights) is responsible for conducting day-to-day monitoring, investigations, and fact-finding missions regarding women's rights abuses. The role involves assessing institutional policies for human rights compliance, drafting reports, tracking treaty body recommendations, and collaborating with stakeholders to promote and protect women's rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct monitoring of selected institutions to assess policy compliance with international and regional human rights standards and produce actionable remedial recommendations.
- Execute fact-finding missions and investigations into human rights abuses and systemic violations against women in cooperation with stakeholders and the community.
- Draft comprehensive human rights reports, briefing notes, statements, and communications.
- Monitor and follow up on the implementation of recommendations, concluding observations, and general comments issued by international and regional human rights bodies.
- Establish and maintain professional partnerships with government bodies, CSOs, UN agencies, and development partners focusing on women's rights.
- Mainstream gender, women's rights, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) considerations across EHRC activities and programming.
- Provide technical support and inputs to victims and requesting groups on women\'s human rights issues.
Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements
- Education: LLM, Master of Arts (MA), or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in Law, Human Rights Law, or International Law.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience for LLB holders.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for LLM/MA holders.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of national, regional, and international human rights frameworks.
- Excellent investigative, monitoring, and report-writing abilities.
- Proficiency in computer applications and reporting tools.
- Mandatory fluency in Amharic (knowledge of other local languages is an added advantage).
