  2. BACKGROUND
The Sew Mehon – Alliance of Ethiopian Local CSOs is implementing a three-year project entitled“Joint Action to Promote Equality, Peace, and Healing in Ethiopia,” with financial support fromthe CSIF II.The project seeks to contribute to a more peaceful, inclusive, and equitable society bystrengthening grassroots leadership, promoting gender equality and human rights, supportingpeacebuilding efforts, and contributing to improved prevention and response to Sexual andGender-Based Violence (SGBV).Under Component 1 of the project, the Consortium is supporting 18 new and emerginggrassroots Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)/Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) acrosssix target areas, with three organizations selected in each region.To support these organizations effectively, the Consortium will strengthen the capacity of itsregional project focal persons, who will subsequently provide capacity-building support to theselected grassroots CSOs/CBOs.The Consortium therefore seeks qualified trainer(s)/consultant(s) to design and deliver aTraining of Trainers (TOT) for regional project focal persons from EURIKA, N4ED, and IDS.
  1. PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The overall purpose of this assignment is to strengthen the capacity of the consortium’s projectstaff and will specifically seek to:
  1. Strengthen the knowledge and facilitation capacity of regional project focal persons
from EURIKA, N4ED, and IDS through a structured Training of Trainers.
  1. Equip regional project focal persons with practical training materials, facilitation
methodologies, and tools on
  • Human Rights,
  • Gender Equality,
  • Peacebuilding,
  • Safe Social Media/Digital Advocacy.
The training will emphasize practical, participatory, and adult-learning approaches that can beadapted to the different needs and contexts of grassroots organizations.
  1. CONSULTANCY POSITIONS
Position 1: Training of Trainers (TOT) Trainer(s)Number required: Multiple trainersLocation: Addis AbabaTarget participants: Regional project focal persons from EURIKA, N4ED, and IDSThe trainer(s) will design and facilitate a comprehensive TOT covering both the thematic areasand core training skills required for participants to effectively cascade the learning to grassrootsCSOs/CBOs.The TOT will cover:
  1. Thematic areas:
  • Human Rights;
  • Gender Equality;
  • Peacebuilding and conflict sensitivity;
  • Safe Social Media and Digital Advocacy;
  1. General training skills:
  • Adult learning and facilitation techniques;
  • Training design and delivery;
  • Participatory learning methodologies;
  • Facilitation and communication skills; and
  • Pre- and post-training assessment methodologies.
The trainer(s) will ensure that participants are not only familiar with the subject matter but arealso able to effectively transfer the knowledge and skills to grassroots CSOs through subsequentregional capacity-building activities.The trainer(s) will also develop a standardized training package that can be adapted and used bythe regional project focal persons.
  1. SCOPE OF WORK
Scope of Work for the TOT TrainerThe TOT trainer(s)/Consultant(s) will be responsible for the following:4.1 Preparation and Assessment
  • Review relevant project documents, including the project logframe, capacity-building
strategy, and relevant assessment findings.
  • Consult with the Consortium Program Manager, MEAL Officer, and regional project focal
persons to understand existing capacity and training needs.
  • Identify the knowledge and skills required by regional project focal persons to effectively
train and support grassroots CSOs/CBOs.4.2 Training Design
  • Develop a detailed TOT methodology and work plan.
  • Develop a structured TOT curriculum and training modules covering both the covered
thematic areas and general training skills listed above.
  • Develop appropriate pre- and post-training assessment tools.
  • Develop practical facilitation exercises and training materials.
  • Provide the prepared material to the consortium for review before the training and
integrate suggestions to finalize.4.3 Training Delivery
  • Facilitate the TOT in Addis Ababa.
  • Use participatory and practical training approaches suitable for adult learners.
  • Provide participants with opportunities to practice delivering training sessions.
  • Provide constructive feedback on participants' facilitation skills.
  • Assess participants' learning and readiness to cascade the training to grassroots CSOs.
4.4 Finalization and Handover
  • Incorporate feedback from the Consortium during the training into the training
materials.
  • Finalize the training curriculum and modules.
  • Provide all finalized training materials and tools to the Consortium.
  • Submit a final TOT report documenting the methodology, participants, key outcomes,
assessment results, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations.
  1. KEY DELIVERABLES
TOT trainer(s) DeliverablesThe TOT trainer(s) will be expected to produce:
  1. Detailed TOT methodology and work plan.
  2. TOT curriculum and training modules.
  3. Facilitator's guide and training materials.
  4. Pre- and post-training assessment tools.
  5. Practical training and facilitation exercises.
  6. Finalized training package for use by regional project focal persons.
  7. TOT completion report, including assessment results, achievements, challenges, lessons
learned, and recommendations.
  1. EXPECTED APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY
The consultant/trainer(s) is expected to use a participatory, practical, context-sensitive,adult-learning, and Training-of-Trainers (TOT) approach. The methodology should equipparticipants not only with thematic knowledge but also with the skills and confidence toeffectively cascade the training to grassroots CSOs/CBOs.The approach should include:
  • Participatory adult learning: Use interactive presentations, group discussions, case
studies, role plays, practical exercises, and peer learning rather than lecture-basedmethods.
  • Training-of-Trainers methodology: Equip participants with skills in training design,
facilitation, communication, group management, session planning, and pre- andpost-training assessment.
  • Learning by doing: Provide participants with opportunities to prepare and deliver short
training sessions, followed by feedback from the trainer and peers.
  • Contextualized approach: Use simple, practical, and locally relevant examples that can
be adapted to the different capacities and contexts of the 18 grassroots CSOs/CBOs.
  • Safe and conflict-sensitive facilitation: Ensure the training promotes inclusive
participation and incorporates conflict sensitivity, safeguarding, and do-no-harmprinciples, particularly when addressing sensitive issues related to gender, human rights,and peacebuilding.
  • Digital learning: Include practical exercises on safe social media use, digital advocacy,
online risks, and appropriate digital tools for CSO communication and advocacy.
  • Assessment and reflection: Use pre- and post-training assessments, practical facilitation
exercises, observation, and participant feedback to assess both knowledge andreadiness to cascade the training.The final methodology should result in a practical and adaptable training package that regionalproject focal persons can use to deliver and adapt capacity-building sessions for grassrootsCSOs/CBOs.
